Iago, Jlcting Clerk Jldministrator <br /> SUBJECT: p~tion to Extend sick Leave for <br /> Public Works BDployee Fred Reed <br /> Enclosed are Sections 19-13 through 19-15 of the city Code relating to <br /> the Personnel Policy and defining employees' eligibility for extensions <br /> of sick leave. <br /> Based on the fact that Fred is a long-term employee in good standing <br /> with the city and will shortly use all his remaining sick leave, and <br /> also that Fred and his family have encountered mny hardships during his <br /> illness, staff recommends Council consider the following action: <br /> That Fred be required to utilize at least 100 hours of <br /> . vacation leave prior to extending any sick leave, which <br /> would leave approximately 40 hours of ti1ne f= his use in <br /> the event he returns to work at a future date. <br /> It is further recommended that Fred be granted an extension <br /> of sick leave for period of one month, and no further <br /> extensions be considered until such ti1ne as a progress <br /> report is received from his physician. <br /> Council should also detennine if this employee is to be held accountable <br /> for the extended ti1ne and if repayment of the ti1ne extension is <br /> necessary; this issue should be addressed for future oc=rences of <br /> this nature and staff will research how other communities address this <br /> mtter . <br /> ACTION RroUIRED: <br /> If Council con=s with the above recommendation, they should pass a <br /> motion directing the a=unting staff to utilize the remainder of Mr. <br /> Reed's sick leave, utilize lOO hours of vacation leave, grant 29 hours <br /> of extended leave to this employee, and request a progress report on Mr. <br /> Reed's condition for presentation at the May 25 regular meeting. <br /> rM/GIT/ts <br /> M92-l43 <br /> . <br />
