FRCH: Dan Winkel, Public works auperint...vlent '/).If. tv- SUBJECT: Solicitation of QUOtes for Cleaninq Arden Place storm sewer Mike McKinney contacted A-I Rootmaster, Roto-Rooter and Municipal Sewer Cleaning for quotes. All three contractors advised they would be using a Jetter truck, much like ours, to attempt to do the cleaning. '!he contractors responded that it would not be necessary to review the situation prior to sending the equipment, based on the infcmration provided by City staff. The service charges quoted ranged fram $100 to $200 for the first hour and $125 for each additional hour. It is my opinion the quotes are very high, considering there are no guarantees that the line would be corrpletely cleaned. - After reviewing the situation with the Public Works =ew, it was determined that perhaps the only way to remedy the situation would be to dig up the pipe and repair the problem. The city staff has attempted to clean the line before, using the Jetter truck, and found there is definitely blockage or a settled pipe approximately 40 to 50 feet upstream from the outlet. Mr. Bauer had a =ew dig the pipe on the north side of Arden Place and found the pipe to be plugged solid in both directions. If Council chooses to have one of the contractors make one last attempt to clean this line, they should direct staff to schedule the cleaning with the least expensive contractor as soon as possible. In is my opinion that, while nothing is impossible, it will be very difficult for any kind of Jetter or rodding equipment to get through this stonn sewer i there is no access to the outlet, except fram the street, making it even more difficult to use the equipment ll'="IM for cleaning .
