CIiY OF ARDEN HILLS
JANUARY 15, 1990
PAGE SIX
various lakes makes getting around a little tough. To a contractor,
"getting around" or mobilization costs, can become a rather large portion of
small jobs sLier. liS see.l coating projects. We therefore would advi~e the
City to group type~ of rlork wherever ~ossib1e, to minimize the amount of
mOVing a contractor has to do. for example, if a group of streets in a
particular neighborhood or area all have ratings of 90 or above, it would be
economically wise to seal coat them all within the same street project. Bid
prices should reflect the fact that all equipment necessary to complete the
. work will be close at hand and operating the entire time it's on the job. A
contractor therefore doesn't have to recover his costs associated with
having equipment sitting on one job when it could be operating elsewhere.
To a somewhat lesser degree, this same method of grouping similar types of
work relates to overlaying streets. Materials are brought into a certain
area and immediately used.
8y USing the ratings for each of the streets within the City as well as
our beSt engineering judgement regarding grouping similar improvements, we
have drafted a two (2) year street seal coating and overlay improvements
program. The program is based on an annual City budget of $100,000. The
fc11cw1ng tab'lCS ,I',.;;\> the proposed seal coating alid overlay progr'"ms for'
both 1990 and 1991.
.
