. CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEH1'lANDOM
IllITE : August 19, 1993
70: Dorothy Person
FRCH: Dan Winkel, Public WOrks SUperintendent .h. W
,
SUBJECT: NO lIOlJR P1\RKING NEAR !IXlNllS VIEW HIGH sarooL
I have reviewed the parking situation in the Sherwood Hills neighborhood
locate:i near Mounds View High School. Mounds view High School does not
have enough on-site parking for all faculty and students. '!'he =ent
on-site parking is by pennit only. I was told by the high school office
staff that the pennits will cost $40.00 per semester and are available
to seniors first, then to juniors and sophOlllOres. Apparently there are
llIOre and more students who desire to drive to school rather than ride on
the b.ls.
. '!'he overflow parking tends to migrate to the Sharewood Hills and
Valentine Hills neighborhoods. 'Ihis can cause a hardship for some of
the residents who would not have access to on-street parking in front of
their homes. The parking situation and the unwanted pedestrian traffic
in private yards are the reasons for concern by the residents. I have
enclosed a map with the streets marked in blue that are =ently posted
"'IWo Hour Parking Between 8: 00 am and 4: 00 pm, Monday thru Friday".
Once a street has been posted, the tendency is for the students to
silllply llIOve to another street not yet poste:i.
My recarmnendation would be to monitor the parking when school starts
this fall. When the overflow parking starts to llIOve to the streets not
=ently marked, then I believe we should post all of the areas marked
in yellow on the map. 'Ihis should be done no later than the first of
October (if Council concurs with the need) . If the on-street parking
continues to be a problem after the "second phase" is marked, then it
would be recammended to post the "phase three" areas marked in green.
'Ihis last phase would virtually eliminate on-street parking for llIOre
than two hours for this entire area near the high school.
. - - - -"-
.
