Date: October 21,1993
To: Arden Hills Planning Commission Members
cc: Arden Hills City Council MembeIs
From: Stephen and Christine Anderson
1361 West Floral Drive
RE: Case #93-16 Variance Request for Garage Improvement
We appreciated the Planning Commission providing us with a discussion of
alternatives fOI Case # 93-16 in the October 6 Planning Commission meeting. We
understand and appreciate your concerns with the 6' variance. Based on feedback
from the Planning Commission members, we have modified the plan to include a 4'
variance, resulting in a 6' side setback. This change results in the minimum space
required for a double garage.
After Iesearching the alternatives, we have pIesented our findings to the
Community Planning Coordinator, Brian Fritzinger. Brian and several City Council
members who have been out to our home have suggested that you review the
. revisions we have made prior to the October 25 City Council meeting. To save time,
we agreed to deliver to you a copy of the packet being sent to the City Council
members.
It is not our intention to bypass the Planning Commission process and push this
modified request through the City Council. If it is the consensus of the Planning
Commission members that this modification is significant enough to require another
Planning Commission meeting and discussion, that is what we will do.
We are facing a serious time crunch, with time needed for completion of blueprints,
requesting bids, etc. We are doing our best to meet City requirements as well as
address concerns over the tIees involved (Larry's and ours). Based on Chris'
horticulture training thru the U of M, and a Nursery Management degree (AAS), we
are aware that a fall construction period would minimize stress on our neighbor's
trees and our Ash tree, while a spIing construction start would cause the most stress
and disease susceptibility.
Please Ieview the attached information with a reduced variance request, and call
Brian by Monday afternoon with your views on the subject.
If you have additional questions, please call us at 633-7613. Thank you for your
time and consideIation.
.
-----
