- ------------
, .,
Arden Hills Council 2 January 10, 1994 .
Councilmember Aplikowski further stated she would appreciate if
any Councilmember could not attend their appointed Committee
meeting, to inform the other Councilmembers. Mayor Sather
commented that under Council comments any member unable to attend
their designated Committee meeting, should inform the Council at
that time and another member could volunteer to attend the
meeting on their behalf. Mayor Sather further commented that
all Committee meetings are open meetings and anyone is welcome to
attend.
Mayor Sather continued with the appointment of members to the
committees. Mayor Sather appointed Mary Robinson, 1200 Edgewater
Avenue and Rita Lafferty, 1721 crystal Avenue to the Human Rights
Commission.
Councilmember Aplikowski questioned who appoints the Committee
Chairperson? Mayor Sather stated Planning commission and Human
Rights Commission chairpersons are appointed by the Mayor. Other
committee chairpersons are appointed within the committee.
Councilmember Probst commented whether the Council wanted to
continue in this manner with the Committee making the appointment
of the chairperson. Discussion followed. Council concurred to
continue the practice of allowing the various committees to vote .
on their own chairpersons except for the Planning and Human
Rights Commissions.
councilmember Aplikowski commented she would like to receive a
copy of the minutes from the various Commissions/Committees. It
was agreed that staff would provide copies of the minutes to all
Councilmembers.
Councilmember Aplikowski questioned the responsibilities of the
committee members, the committee chairperson, the Council Liaison
and the Staff Liaison, and suggested that a mission statement be
completed for each of the committees. In addition, she suggested
that each committee set goals, and present these goals and the
Mission Statement to the Council with a yearly review.
Mayor Sather stated the committee should approach the Council
liaison with their ideas for work projects.
Councilmember Hicks commented that committee members should be
encouraged, but not required to move to other committees. Moving
to a different committee would broaden their experience, however,
it should not be mandatory. Councilmember Hicks further
commented that it is difficult to get citizen involvement in
volunteering to serve on committees, therefore, we need to
appreciate their commitment to serve on any committee.
