Person, City lldministxator
DATE : February 17, 1994
SUBJECT: updates
I. Park & Recreation - As a clarification, the grant referred to in the
Administrator comments of February 11, is in the extreme preli1ninary
application stage. Cindy has completed a request fonn to initiate the
review process for a 1995 OUtdoor Recreation Grant. This federal
program provides matching grants to cities, counties, townships and
recognized In:iian Tribal Governments. 'Ihe grant is n<:M under the
jutiOOiction of the DNR.
The request was sul:mitted for the possible redevelopment of Perry Park.
The Park & Recreation Canunittee has discussed redevelopment of Perry
Park for 1995. The preliminary estimate to redevelop is $377,000,
although there is a suggestion that this may be inflated.
. The grant could potentially fund up to 50% of the project cost. The
remaining 50% or more would be matched by the City. It would came from
the Park Fund.
cin:1y has received a call from the Grant Manager requesting to meet with
her. The amount of grant money available is not known at this t:i1ne. We
have been told that the Perry Park project will receiye further
consideration.
2. Sheriff's Department - 'Ihe Contract cities group has been reviewing the
possibility of funding a speed monitoring awareness radar trailer (see
attached) . This unit gives electronic feedback to a driyer of the speed
at the t:i1ne of the radar. It is not used as a speed trap, but is a
monitoring deyice. It can also be used as a traffic counter. The
Contract cities would share in its use on a rotating basis, scheduled by
the Sheriff's Department.
The cost to Arden Hills would be $1,800. The funds to be used would be
the proceeds from the sale of squad cars in 1993 ($5,100 to Arden
Hills) . The Council will be asked to consider this and pass a
resolution at one of it's upcoming meetings if you agree. If you have
questions or if you disagree with this purchase and use, please let me
know.
DAP:rk
. =: Department Heads
