The post "as first
chartered in 1957 and is currently the oldest Explorer post in
Minnesota and the second oldest in the United states.
La", Enforcement Explo=ing is a coed part of the Boy Scouts
of America. It is designed to provide young men and ",omen ages
14-21 ",ith hands on experience in the la", enforcement field, to
help them prepare for a career in la~ enforcement. Post #2 is a
voluntary part of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department. The
post must rely on donations from groups and other fundraising .
methods such as popcorn sales to provide money needed by the
post.
Explorer Post #2 has tried many different ",ays to raise
funds this past year. We have sold t-shirts, mugs, popcorn, and
we have 'Worked for Hannon Security at Vikings games to make money
for Ezplcrers. Unfortunately, the fundraising "e have done is
not sufficient for our needs.
April 21 through 24 is the state Exploring Conference.
Explorers from all over Minnesota compete in competitions such as
. burglary response, hostage negotiations, and crime prevention.
The state conference is a lot of fun and hard "ork, but most of
all, it is expensive. The cost per person is $110, ",hich may not
seem like much, but ",hen multiplied by seventeen Explorers and
three advisors, the figure adds up to approximately $2000. This
year we have asked each E>:plorer to pay $50 of the conference
fee, but many can not afford it. Our Explorers come from many
,-:.ifferent areas of the county, such as Vadnais Heights,
Shorevie"vl, White Bear Lake, New Brighton, Roseville, and Little
Canada. Several of our Explorers can not afford the $20 a year
for dues to the post, let alone the $50 for the state conference.
1994 is a busy year for Explorers. In addition to the state
conference in April, there is a National Explorer Conference
being held in Bloomington, Indiana. At the national conference,
Explorers get to ",ork "ith and meet other Explorers from all over
the country, and attend seminars taught by many federal agencies
such as tJ-,e FBI, ATF, U.S. Customs and the U.S. Secret Service.
The cost for nationals is $220 per person, not including
transportation. Our post has enough money for the state
conference in April, but "'e ",i 11 probably not have enough money
for nationals.
We, the Explorers of Post #2, ",ould greatly appreciate any
help your organization could give us financially.
Sincerely,
.
