. ARDEN HILLS ~EWSLE.TIER
APRIL 1. 1994
1. ADMINISTRATION -
A. The City has been informed as of today by Tim Mayasich of
Ramsey County Public Works, that Hwy. 96 is anticipated to be
turned back to the County this year. The City had recently been
notified of a milling and overlay project to be done on Hwy. 96
this year, however, because of the pending negotiations of the
turnback ofHwy. 96 to the County, the milling and overlay project
will not take place this year. All of the monies that were to be used .
for the milling and overlay project will be given to the County for a
future reconstruction project on Hwy. 96. Minor maintenance
work (patching, etc.) will continue by the state. Highway 96
reconstruction planning will continue. This cost suggestion is a
positive sign, along with all four lanes in place in our City. Work
with the County will continue.
B. The Ramsey County Sheriffs Contract Cities group - Falcon
. Heights has requested a proposal for service from the group. The
possible service thus far identified could be a .2 deputy from Arden
Hills and .I Deputy from Shoreview available as on can onJv from
2:00 am - 10:00 am during 139 days of the year, with 226 days of
the year where Falcon Heights will provide that coverage. The
Arden Hills squad will return to Arden Hills and the regular route.
Please consider whether you see this as a possible option. It could
change the 24 hours coverage slightly.
The Department is also expected to request additional deputy hours
to address the late night shiftlhigher crime hours. This was
considered in the past year, but the need for all cities has not been
there, funding has been an issue so this has not been previously
formally forwarded to Council. Arden Hills needs have not
dramatically increased, yet 1993 statistics show a higher use of
other cities' squads to assist Arden Hills squads compared to the
others' assists. Further review is being done.
2. PUBLIC WORKS
A. The City has received a letter from the State of Minnesota
regarding our request for reimbursement of$15,491.93 from the
. Petro fund. The State has reviewed and has reduced our request by
$2,314.95 in mark-up charges. If the City would like to contest the
----- --
