Person, City arlmini strator
SUBJECl': Pay Equity update
1. Pay Equity - Job Evaluation Study and salary chart update:
This past year has sha.oin changes in sane job content and
responsibilities in order to provide consultant savings and
handle projects to !TOre calpletely administer from within our
staff. This saves =sts, but !TOre irrpJrtantly, it provides !TOre
=nplete records and overall servicing and e=rdination between
departrrents.
'I'w:l consultants have been contacted to provide this service.
POI and Hay Ass=iates.
In evaluating the providers, their emphasis and style in
. processing information differ.
a. Hay Ass=iates - basic job description. Review lacks
flexibility (off the shelf) . Titre taken in interviewing
individual employees is redundant and over! y detailed and
places limited errphasis on managem=nt input. Hay's
enphasis is on the job documentation and is very limited
in it's linking of responsibilities to w:>rking on sal'\lY
charts. ($3,600-$4,000 with a maximum of $6,000) .
b. POI - EiTphasis is on conducting job reviews with
r::epartrrent Heads with the r::epartrrent Heads rreeting with
enployees for further review. This provides an
opportunity to the Department Head to cormn.micate with
enployees which WUlld not otherwise be available,
($4,515) .
Under POI in day to day activities - Blue =llar credit given is
higher (25% by POI and Hay at 15%) ie: w:>rking condition. This
is an irrportant credit under Minnesota Pay Equity.
There are !TOre baseline jobs in the overall City study by POI.
This rrakes it !TOre cost effective and easier to adjust as a job
WUlld change, and allows a job to be !TOre personalized.
. POI is reccmrencled as the =nsultant for an updated job
evaluation study.
