.
.
. Once installed, the Sensus TouchRead System can be converted to one of
t~ additional options that can further increase efficiency. The
first is the RadioRead System that allows a meter transceiver unit to
be attached directly to the rreter thus allowing the meter reader to
either drive = walk by the residence and read the meter. A radio
signal is exchanged between the meter and either a hand held
interrogator or a mere powerful vehicle transceiver unit. Once again,
at the end of the day the interrogator or the pcrtable vehicle
transceiver unit can be clown-loaded into a personal cc::ll;JUter. The
manufacturer of the RadioRead System claims that one person driving a
vehicle, and using a vehicle transceiver can efficiently read 1,500 to
1,800 meters in one day. If this claim is true, all Arden Hills
residential meters could J::e read by one person in 1 1/2 to 2 days.
The second additional option is called the PhonRead System. The meter
is connected to a meter interface unit that is also attached to an
external phone jack. The interface unit is prcgramned to call "in" to
the personal carputer at City Hall and autcmatically transmit data.
The PhcnRead System uses the custc:mer' s existing phone line and allows
readings as often as is desired. The phone readings can be catpleted
at any time and are not noticed by the custc:mer. This system would
. virtually eliminate mest manual readings. The drawback to this system
is that the phone lines llU.lSt always be ~rking properly.
The total cost for the three systems mentioned are listed below, with
a carplete breakdown on file f= future reference.
The Sensus 3/4" SR II TouchRead meter with rerrote touch pad is $96.00
per meter. This price assumes a purchase of at least 500 meters. A
discount of $6.00 per rreter would be given if the entire system of
2,400 to 2,500 rreters are purchased at one tirre. The meter price will
remain constant for all three options.
. TouchRead System including six touchguns, 2400 meters at $90.00
each, all hardware and software would cost $225,075.
. RadioRead with one hand held interrogator, 2,400 meters, and all
hardware and software would cost $520,500.
* Add an additional $30,000 for rrobile vehicle transceiver
unit.
. . PhonRead with 2,400 meters, all hardware and software would cost
$469,050.
