.
May 18, 1994
Larry Romans
Administrative Assistant
Congressman Bruce F. Vento
2304 Rayburn HOB
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Mr. Romans:
Since your visit to TCAAP in Arden Hills last year we've created
quite an interest in the preservation of the Arsenal lands. Last
fall 1,253 people toured the natural areas for a nature walk on a
beautiful October day. This spring the city of Arden Hills held
public meetings concerning the disposition of the land at some
future date. The message was clear to the officials and the
audience, there will be a park (maybe even a park reserve similar
to those in Hennepin County). Now the only decision left is the
percentage of park land versus development.
. The facility has thirteen, fifty year old military housing units.
HUD is attempting to find a use for those homes. As of today no
one has submitted a request for their use. The houses have lead
paint and asbestos in them. They are located between Rice Creek
and Interstate 35W. The community wants the TCAAP land set aside
for open space and recreational playing fields. Baseball
diamonds would be a perfect buffer between the creek and the
highway. Access is ideal from county road H and an extent ion
from county road 1- The remote location would offer an ideal
location for kids and adult recreation.
These houses are already declared surplus and the land will
follow. I do believe the community would enthusiastically
embrace the concept of replacing those houses with recreational
opportunities. Can we stir your interest in this idea?
Sincerely,
Craig R. Andresen
2013 Walnut Ave. N.W.
New Brighton, Minnesota 55112
.
