. MS,;
CONSULmGEIGlN'EERS June 20 1994
,
File: 520-047-30
Mr. Dan Winkel
City of Arden Hills
1450 West Highway 96
Arden Hills, MN 55112-5794
RE: AMBLE DRIVE STORM SEWER
Cl..../i [NGINEEP:""G
Dear Mr. Winkel:
f'\'i',:;ON,'/EN!:':
As requested at the public hearing for the 1994 Street Improvement project, we have
N,~!NiC:Pt.i investigated the possibility of rerouting the Amble Drive storm sewer to divert the outlet
away from Karth Lake. Our analysis of the existing storm sewer elevation has indicated it
PiA,Vr-.,'iNG would be possible to divert the two low points on Amble Drive toward the intersection of
Pleasant Drive and then extend storm sewer along Pleasant Drive to an existing manhole near
_TRueTuRAl the intersection of Pleasant Circle. We have estimated that to accomplish this would involve
over 1,000 additional feet of IS-inch pipe on Amble Drive plus approximately 900 linear feet
SU~\lEYING of IS-inch pipe on Pleasant Drive. Of course, Pleasant Drive is not included in the street
reconstruction program, so if this were to be undertaken without street reconstruction, it
T~Amc would involve the restoration of at least half the existing street. Given this assumption, we
have estimated the cost of this rerouting at approximately $70,000, including typical City
TRA,'J$Po.~TATlON overhead costs.
We have also done a cursory analysis of the total amount of tributary area to Karth Lake and
the amount that is represented by the Amble Drive area, OUf review indicates that rerouting
Amble Drive away from Karth Lake would remove a very small portion of the tributary area.
It appears there is a large area from the south that outlets to Karth Lake and also a fairly
large area east of Lexington that outlets to Karth Lake.
Please let me know how you would like us to proceed on this issue.
1326 Energy pork Drive Sincerely,
SI.
