This fee could assist in offsetting some of the increased costs in the area of ani!ll3l control. It would appear that a fee ranging from $25 to $50 would be lIDst appropriate. 5. CAT LICENSIN3 The ordinance, Section 5-58, requires all domestic ani!ll3ls to be licensed . At the tiTre the City adopted this ordinance, it did not adopt any fee schedule for the licensing of cats. The fees for cat licenses range in the TWin Cities fran $2.50- 5.00 per year. The City dog license costs $15 for 2 years. The AniIra1 Control Officer has reccxrrrEI1ded that due to an increase in stray cats, the City implEillEIlt the Cat license p:>licy. Staff . would concur with this and recanrend a similar fee at $15 for 2 years beginning in 1995. 6. LICENSIN3 ill GENERAl, One of the questions raised in the letter fo:rm Dr. Vanek is the relationship between the license and rabies vaccination requirerrents . Apparently, there is now a 3 year rabies vaccination. A question which I would like to p:>se to yourself and the City COilllcil is the rationale behind our licensing. Is the purpose of licensing to track ownership or ensure rabies vaccination/disease control. If it is rabies vaccination/disease control , the City ffi3.y want to reconsider its 2 year license and tie the length of the license to the rabies vaccination. 7.
