' MEMJRANDUM
DATE: September l2, 1994
TO: Dorothy Person, City Administrator
FRCM: Brian Fritsinger, Carmmity P1anni:cg Coordi:na~
\
SUBJECT : Options for the proposed City Hall. \
\.
Recently staff toured the vacant building at 1212 Red Fox Road as a
potential site for a relocated City Hall. As I mentioned that day,
there may be several other sites that warrant the consideration of the
City Council,
Obviously, the key to relocating to a new site is whether or not the
City is ccmnitting to the site long-texm or short-term. I assurre that
your discussions with the City Council have detailed the IT'Onetary
plans and alternatives for a relocated or new City Hall. These
alternative may have included:
1. Retro fit and expansion of both buildings on the present
. site.
2, Building new facilities on other sites
3, Tearing down and building new facilities on present site
4, Leasing or building new on the arsenal property.
5, Leasing facilities elsewhere in City.
6, Operate under existing =ditions.
1. Gateway Business District.
There are no vacant buildings in this proposed develop:rent but
the City does own acreage where a new building could be
constructed. Everest Develop:rent has indicated to staff that
their firm w:JUld be interested in a lease/purchase project for
a new City Hall.
Advantage of the Site.
A, Minimal land .acquisition costs
8, Will assist in the future redevelop:rent of the area
C. May assist in potential land swap with Harstad
D. Easy access
E. C~tible with zoning, adjacent land uses
.
