.
Staff is reviewing the possibility of doing a joint residential water .
meter replacerrent project with l'bunds view in 1995. lVbunds View is
scheduled to replace all of their residential meters early in 1995. A
Request for Proposal for this project is currently being prepared and
it appears that both cities could realize a rronetary savings by doing
this proj ect together. The project v.ould include both the purchase
of new meters and installation. More inforrration will follow when it
becomes available.
Staff was informed of a water leak in a driveway of a townhouse on
Brueberry Lane. The Public Works =ew investigated and tried to
detexmine the location of the leak. When the closet curb box was shut
off, the water appeared to stop. Because the water stopped leaking
into the driveway, it was determined that the responsibility to repair
the leak rested with the property owner. The property owner was
informed of the City ordinance that states when the leak occurs
between the curb box and the house, the property owner becomes
responsible for the repair.
A contractor was hired and the repairs completed. When the curb box
was exp:lsed, it became obvious that the water leak was actually on the
street or water main side of the curb box. The responsibility to .
repair the leak is now the responsibility of the City. The City has
reimbursed the Arden Hills Townhouse Association the arrount of
$1,380.00 for the contracted repair. There will be additional costs
to the City when the concrete driveway is repaired in the spring.
.
