KINGMAN, III, DIRECTOR OF APPOINTMENTS - <br /> DATE: DECEMBER 15, 1994 I <br /> SUBJECT: NOTICE OF METROPOLITAN COUNCIL VACANCIES <br /> - <br /> - <br /> Changes to legislation affecting the appointment of members to the Metropolitan Council <br /> have resulted in the terms of al116 council districts becoming vacant on January 1, 1995. I <br /> The Secretary of State's office has published these vacancies in the 1994 Annual Compilation ~I <br /> and Statistical Report. Local and regional Twin Cities newspapers have also been notified of <br /> these vacancies. This letter provides written notice of vacancy to the governing bodies of all <br /> counties, cities, towns and townships for each of the 16 Metropolitan Council Districts. I <br /> Qualified persons who are knowledgeable about urban and metropolitan affairs may obtain an <br /> application by contacting either the Governor's office or the Secretary of State's office. The <br /> application deadline is Friday, January 6, 1995. Applications received by the Secretary of I <br /> State's office by 4:30 p.m. on January 6 will be considered. <br /> A nominating committee composed of seven metropolitan citizens including three whom are , <br /> local elected officials within the metropolitan area has been created as required by state <br /> statute. The committee must conduct a public meeting to accept statements from or on <br /> behalf of persons who have applied or been nominated forappointlJlel1t am:HoaUow I <br /> consultation with and secure the advice of the public and localeJli!4ted officials. The public <br /> meeting will be held the evening of January 17, 1995 at th"MetropoIitan Couucil <br /> Chamhers in Saint Paul. Following the meeting, the nominatingcomn>>ttee.'Submits a list , <br /> of nominees to the Governor for this appointment.
