I
I- ideal conditions do not exist in each segment and therefore other median alternatives may be more
appropriate for some segments. Below is a summary of some of the key trade-offs in each segment.
I Old Hwv 8 to Hwv 10
I Since a raised median and channelization is desirable at the signalized intersections there will be a
need for at least a narrow median in this segment of the corridor. With a narrow median, most of
I the median area would be used for left'turn lanes and there would be very little area for landscape
enhancements. However, the wider median will result in additional wetland impact and there is
relatively low probability that double left-turn lanes will be needed in the future.
I Highwav 10 to Lexington Avenue
I In this area there is a relatively high probability that double left-turn lanes may be needed in the
future, there is plenty of right-of-way, there would be relatively little impact to adjacent land uses
or wetlands, and there would be relatively little impact on the existing access.
I Lexington to Hod!?son Road
I In this segment there is adequate right-of-way to accommodate the wide median but there will be
wetland impacts and some impact to adjacent land uses with the wide median. There is a low
I- probability that double-left turns will be needed in this segment. There are existing land uses that
currently have full access that would be restricted to right-in and right-out if a raised median were
provided. However, from a safety standpoint the raised median would be desirable.
I Hodgson to Rice Street .
, In this segment there is adequate right-of-way to accommodate the wide median and there will
minimal wetland impacts or impact to adjacent land uses with the wide median. However, there is
a low probability that double-left turns will be needed in this segment. There are existing land uses
, that currently have full access that would be restricted to right-in and right-out if a raised median
were provided, From a safety standpoint the raised median would be desirable.
, Rice Street to McMenemv
, In this segment additional right-of-way would have to be acquired in some locations to accommodate
the wide median alternative. The median would have impacts on the golf course, Water Works Park,
and adjacent residential uses. There would also be additional wetland impacts. There is only one
I access in this segment and if it could be moved to Rice Street there would be no need for left-turn
lanes and the median may be eliminated.
I McMenemv to Centerville
.- - In this segment there is adequate right-of-way to accommodate the wide. median but there will be
wetland impacts and some impact to adjacent land uses with the Wide median. There is a low
, -'10
nm.'
