There is an existing freestanding pole sign the applicant would like to reuse. It is along the west side of the property, between the existing building and the right of way for Snelling Avenue. We propose to re-face it with a new sign for Elegant Event Center as shown on the drawings submitted in the Planning Submittal Package. 2. We propose to use thin brick as the Desirable Material. This brick would be actual clay brick approximately 1/2” to 5/8” thick. Each brick is individually installed with mortar joints. 3. All the new exterior finishes will conform to City’s appearance requirements and the average overall percentage breakdown for all elevations between Desirable Materials and Accent Materials is as follows: Desirable Materials - 89% Accent Materials - 11% The south building elevation has an existing tall parapet wall above an existing overhang. We are concerned about this parapet wall’s ability to accept too much additional weight imposed by the new Desirable Materials – i.e. brick masonry, tile masonry, natural stone, etc. We would like to request a Flexibility to the percentages of Desirable Materials and Accent Materials for this elevation only. The percentages for this elevation, as shown on the in the submittal package, are: Desirable Materials - 63% Accent Material - 37% 4. The City’s Design Standards state, “Fifty percent (50%) of all first level building façades that front a public street shall be comprised of transparent windows or doors in order to allow views of interior uses and activities.” We would like to request a Flexibility to this design standard.
