11 Pleasure and hockey rink maintenance typically begins in November to build ice, with the goal of having a solid ice base in time for the holiday season. Prior to establishing ice, PW staff completes the below items to prepare for skating season. • Coordinate delivery and electrical connection to Hazelnut skating rink. • Inspects, cleans, and delivers needed supplies to the warming houses. • Inspect and repair rink lighting, damaged hockey boards, back stops, and grade inside the rink if needed. • Gather quantities and budget numbers for a full replacement of the hockey boards at Perry Park. The hockey boards are approaching the end of useful life and can be considered for full replacement in 2025 pending Council approval. Once ice is established, PW cleans and floods the ice daily, Monday – Friday. PW coordinates with the Recreation Manager to ensure the warming houses are staffed with attendants during rink hours. Hazelnut Park Sledding Hill – Added in 2023, Public Works will continue to maintain this space for sledding activities in the winter months. Maintenance includes brush/tall grass cutting and removal of woody vegetation. PTRC-Inspired Projects • Per Council direction, at the March 11, 2024 Work Session, PW will coordinate the installation of automatic door locks at Perry Pavilion restrooms. The management of this newly installed system will be evaluated for efficiency and maintenance needs. Potential Volunteer projects: • Park bench cleaning • Buckthorn removal, small plant pulling. • Install sealer on gaga ball pits. Hazelnut, Cummings, Arden Manor, Floral. • CNP natural wood chip installation on trails • Weed/ replant as needed gardens at Johanna Marsh Park. • Weed play structure mulch • Replace one tree at South Shore Park Citywide municipal trail inspections – Public Works will inspect the entire City trail system and update the condition ratings to assist in planning for maintenance repairs and rehabilitation schedule.
