COUNCIL OF VIL~GEOF ARDEN HILLS <br /> MONDAY, DECEMBER U, 1959 <br /> The meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m. by Acting Mayor Crepeau. <br /> Roll Call: Present; Ashbach, Crepeau, Kennedy, Delange <br /> Absent; Stromquist <br /> ... Mayor Ashbach left shortly after the meeting convened due to an unexpected <br /> meeting conflict. <br /> Margaret Steinkraus was present to record the minutes of the meeting. <br /> The minutes of the November 30 meeting were read and approved. <br /> Clerk's Eeport: Steinkraus reported that Mrs. Stromquist had received <br /> a complaint from Edith Hodgson on Skiles Lane that when snow is plowed <br /> onSkiles Lane, the plow turns around in the street, leaving a mound of <br /> dir,t 'on the side of the road making the condition of the street hazardous. <br /> This has been done at least twice. The matter waS referred to Delange <br /> for investigation and correction. <br /> A letter from Robert Weber applying for the position of Justice of the <br /> peace was read. Crepeau moved and Delange seconded that the application <br /> . be submitted to the Mayor who will make the appointment after the first <br /> of the year. <br /> A letter from Bannister Engineering Company was read concerning the <br /> extension of sanitary sewer facilities to the property of Mrs. Capis- <br /> trant. A motion was made to approve the change order of that order by <br /> Kennedy. seconded 9Y Delange. Motion carried. <br /> A letter from Bannister Engineering Company concerning funds for pre- <br /> liminary studies for a Municipal Waterworks System was to be placed on <br /> file with the Clerk. <br /> A letter from Mr. Devitt concerning the drunk driving case of Elwood <br /> Morkin was placed on file with the Clerk. <br /> Mr. Vic Weber, Chief of police, stated that juries tend to find drunk <br /> drivers not guilty when tried in District Court. He feels that the <br /> police Department and Justice Court need to be backed up by the Council <br /> on these appdals. He was informed that the Council has already author- <br /> . ized the Public Safety Department to defend all appeals of Justice Court <br /> decisions. <br /> A letter from Northern States Power Company concerning electricity for <br /> the sewer lift station was read to the Council. The Council recommended <br /> that it be referred to Bannister Engineering asking for a recommendation. <br /> . APplications for On and Off-Sale non_intoxicating liquor, cigarette, <br /> juke box, soft drinks and cafe licenses were submitted by Mar-Dee's <br /> Inn. A motion was made by Kennedy, seconded by Delange, that these <br /> licenses be approved subject to checking by the Public Safety Department. <br /> Motion carried. <br />
