<br />ARDEN HILLS REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETlNG MINUTES <br />.JUNE 27,2005 <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />being acceptable, but there was some give and take on this development, including the additional <br />landscaping, pitched roof, brick on the columns, and the monument sign. Hc bclieved this was a <br />good compromise and would be a nice development. <br /> <br />Mayor ApIikowski stated if thcy were being required to use something other than EFIS, Council <br />needed to specifically state what type of material they needed to use. <br /> <br />Councilmember Larson stated the City had established a standard and it needed to bc adhered to. <br />Hc indicatcd they needed to enforce their standards. <br /> <br />Mayor ApIikowski stated if Councilmember Larson wantcd them to use a different material, he <br />had to state what kind of material should be used. Councilmember Larson stated he did not <br />want to limit the developer to specific materials, but rather give them flexibility to work with staff <br />on a material that would work better. <br /> <br />Mayor Aplikowski stated shc did not understand tlle EFIS criteria because it was a useful <br />building material in small amounts. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Mr. Sacco stated they had worked hard on this site plan and the landscaping had been the main <br />issue, which they had workcd with staff to add the additional landscaping. He indicated he was <br />not even sure the building would be seen from the road bccause of the additional landscaping <br />being required. He asked Council take that into consideration. He asked if Council wanted a <br />di fferent building material, could they cut back on some of the landscaping. He noted the <br />landscaping was an amazing amount of money. He stated there was a small amount ofEFIS being <br />used on the building and he believed the additional landscaping was a good compromisc. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant asked if this was the same design being used in other commullities. Mr. <br />Sacco stated this was the same design as uscd in Shakopee and Chaska. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant asked if applicant anticipated larger trucks using this facility. Mr. Sacco <br />stated they had no interest in servicing large diesel trucks, but they would serve the smaller trucks, <br />such as FedEx and UPS trucks, as well as residential diesel cars and trucks. <br /> <br />Conncilmember Grant stated he would not want the City Forcstcr to require tllat a healthy tree <br />remain because not all healthy trees are attractive. He stated he wanted to change requirement 2 <br />to read: "To save as many existing quality, well placed, and healthy trees as possible." <br /> <br />MOTION: Councilmember Grant moved and Mayor Aplikowski seconded a motion to <br />approve Planning Case 05-13: Holiday Station Stores, Inc. with the recommended <br />revised conditions of approval, with a change to item 2 to read: "save as many <br />cxisting, wcll placed, and healthy trees as possible". <br /> <br />. Councilmember Holden asked if it was the City's requirement tor the caliper inches for tl1e trees. <br />Mr. HeIlegers replied the City wanted additional landscaping to ensure that the lighting would <br /> <br />6 <br />
