5- <br />1973 <br />Parks and Recreation Committee Minutes : April <br />Lindquist and Buckley explained to the Committee the <br />latest plans for handling the moisture problem at Valentine <br />Park. It is their hope that the open ditch method will be suc- <br />cessful in removing the water. <br />May <br />Valentine Park drainage was discussed . Johansen , <br />Boss , Buckley and Lund to consult Professor Phil Manson , an <br />agricultural drainage specialist at the University of Minnesota , <br />by meeting at the site to study the problem and come up with <br />a solution . (Manson indicated that the drains from the upper <br />streets should be unplugged and a ditch for drain water be <br />dug along the south side of the field , then north to the <br />drain into Valentine Lake . Mr . Buckley got the job done . <br />Alternate plan if this didn ' t work was to lay drainage tile . <br />This was not necessary . <br />June <br />Five additional loads of infield material was placed <br />1 <br />and leveled at Valentine Park and the baseball diamond is <br />being used for the first time in two years . <br />September <br />Site improvement : J . Buckley reviewed this summer ' s <br />site improvement projects . After clarification , G. Beagin <br />moved that the following projects be completed at Valentine <br />Park : <br />Underground wire be laid to new shelter and location : <br />Cost approximately $225 . 00
