OVERVIEW
Round Lake is located in Arden Hills about 12 miles northwest of down-
town St. Paul . The lake is in the north end of the Lake Johanna Water-
shed situated between the Schmidt Park and Rush Lake Open Space sites.
The Round Lake area is surrounded by major highways I-35W, I-694, U.S.
10, and M.T.H. 96, with access along Snelling Avenue paralling U.S. 10.
Round lake itself, and its shoreline totaling 120 acres is owned by
the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (U.S.F.W.S.) who have
designated the lake as a "waterfowl production area" .
The intent of this proposed acquisition is to cooperate with the U.S.
F.W.S. in managing this land with a combined area of 175 acres.
ANALYSIS (MAN SYSTEMS)
The proposed acquisition totals 55.93 acres involving six (6) ownerships •
including one (1 ) farm. The two parts of the proposed acquisition are
the west side 8.95 acres and the southeast 46.98 acres.
The west side will serve as a buffer between the shoreline trail and
the adjacent industrial property as well as maintain the areas'
scenic qualities. The west side boundary follows in part, a sanitary
sewer easement.
The southeast part of the proposed acquisition is the major area com-
plimentary to the Round Lake United States Fish and Wildlife Service
waterfowl production area".
The north and east sides of the lake are lined by 14 houses in a strip
between the U.S.F.W.S. property and Snelling Avenue.
