<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - JANUARY 31, 2000 <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br />Ms, Winny Dudasocker, 1644 Chatham Avenue, agreed that the proposal athletic complex was <br />too ambitious, She agreed that Bethel College should be allowed to develop their land, <br />However, she was concerned about the proposed single northbound lane which will only provide <br />for one turn lane onto McCracken Avenue, She has spoken with the University of Minnesota <br />Horticulture Department regarding improving the proposed landscaping, She noted that the <br />Planning Commission had suggested additional bushes along the bleachers, She provided the <br />City Council with a list of other trees that could be used at the complex. <br /> <br />Ms, Dudasocker stated that she was concerned about parking on Chatham Avenue, She <br />requested that no parking signs be posted at the beginning of the street to avoid overflow parking <br />in her neighborhood, <br /> <br />Mr, Boyd Paulu, 3782 McCracken Lane, was concerned that if the grass trail is relocated within <br />the 20-foot easement a significant number of mature trees will be lost. Additionally, the trail <br />runs diagonally across the northwest edge of the tennis courts and he does not believe that the <br />location of the tennis courts have been marked out on the site in order to determine the impact to <br />his property, <br /> <br />Mr, Paulu expressed concern for the impact of the proposal on his property, He stated that he <br />moved to Arden Hills trom northern Minnesota and he enjoys the open space behind him, He <br />was not supportive of the lighted monument sign or the lighted parking lot and entry, With <br />regard to the traffic concerns, he did not feel the City Council had adequate information to <br />approvc the request <br /> <br />Mr. Paulu noted that Bethel College had four good tennis courts that were removed for a parking <br />lot on campus, Hc felt it did not make sense to spend more money to build additional tennis <br />courts, He stated that the City Council, Planning Commission and Parks Commission have been <br />unresponsive to the neighborhood concerns, He asked that the Planning Case be tabled to allow <br />further study, to determine where the grass trail will be located, and for Ramsey County to <br />further study the restriping of Old Snelling Avenue, <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Beutelspacher, 1644 Chatham Avenue, echoed the safety concerns that have been <br />addressed, He indicated that his wife was nearly hit head-on by a high school student while <br />heading northbound trom the bridge, The high school student was in the wrong lane making a <br />left turn onto Bethel Drive, He felt that the proposed markings would exasperate the situation. <br /> <br />Mr. Beutelspacher expressed concern for pedestrian and bicycle traffic along Old Snelling <br />Avenue, He felt that moving the traftic closer to the edges will increase the danger. <br /> <br />Mr. Gordon Kristufek, 1640 Chatham Avenue, agreed with thc concerns expressed rcgarding the <br />traffic issues and pedestrian safety, He has two young children that utilize the trail system and he <br />implored the City Council to not make a hasty decision until the end result of the project has <br />been determined. <br /> <br />Mr. Kunkel stated that he was responsible for the security and safety of the campus and he takes <br />the safety issues of the students very seriously, Bethel College was recently voted one of the top <br />
