.

.

.

ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - FEBRUARY 28, 2000

5

Councilmember Grant asked Fire Chief Schreier what he considers as the biggest challenges and
opportunities. Fire Chief Schreier stated he sees the biggest challenges as the day-to-day work
which they can handle but becomes more involved due to OSHA and other regulations. He
stated that looking to tbe future, in this year alone, cballenges include keeping the "ship"
running, improving communications, and addressing administrative issues with the cities.

Fire Chief Boehlke stated the staffing issue is not a worry but every year the number of fire calls
increases and training requirements cbange so it is difficult to keep anyone around for 20 years.
He stated it is not possible to look down the road 10 years and determine what will be required
but the Lake Johanna fire fighters put a lot of time into education, training, and responding to
calls.

Fire Chief Schreier stated he sees their opportunity is to build relationships with the cities, noting
a long range planning committee just started with new members so they may have additional
information in several months.

Mayor Probst extended the Council's appreciation for their work on bebalf ofthe City.

B. Ingerson Neighborhood Road Improvement Design Review Group, Appointment of
Members

It was noted that the City Council appointed Linda Swanson to chair the Ingerson Neighborhood
Road Improvement Design Review Group at its February 14,2000 Council meeting. Ms.
Swanson was autborized by tbe Council to work with interested residents and submit a list of
five residents to serve on the design review group. The letter from Ms. Swanson was noted,
which indicated her list of recommended members for the design study group as follows: Terese
Cain, Richard (Dick) Hanson, Christine Peterson, Linda Swanson, and Yvomle Wilken. It was
noted that one member from the Planning Commission and one member from the Operations and
Finance Committee have yet to be determined.

Councilmember Rem advised that Mr. Nygard from the Operations and Finance Committee
indicated he would be happy to participate.

Councilmember Larson noted that the Planning Commission had yet to meet this week so a
participant had not been determined. He pointed out tbe scheduling conflict with caucuses on
March 7, 2000, and advised that the design review group meeting had been rescheduled for
March 21, 2000, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall that was the earliest available date.

MOTION:

Councilmember Aplikowski moved and Councilmember Grant seconded a motion
to appoint the following persons to the Ingerson Road Improvement Review
Group: Terese Cain, Richard (Dick) Hanson, Cbristine Peterson, Linda Swanson,
Yvonne Wilken, and Mr. Nygard. The motion carried unanimously (5-0).

Linda Swanson stated this had previously been referred to as a "task force" but now is indicated
as a "review group." Sbe inquired as to why and when this change was made.
