Minnesota Hlghw~y Department, Letter. dated May I, 1972 The letter and attached traffic count records were discussed. The Arden Hills police department will conduct some Independ- ent traffIc counts for our records. . The Council agreed that a letter should be sent reiterating our long rungs Intention that (I) Arden Hills doas not approve the Highway 51 plans, making 51 Dnd Snelling a major Inter- section, Ilnd (2) that we feel the Highway Dept. should have some means of slowing traffic In that vicinity to 50 mph. The Council noted the small number of accidents listed at the Intersoctlon, taken from figures submitted with the May I letter, and questioned the need for signalization. Mayor and Clerk Administrator to compose letter to Highway Department following Arden Hills traffic survey. 2. Meetln!ls Annual Meeting, Metro league of Municipalities Councilman Hollenhorst will attend the meetIng. He asked for Council Input on the following legislative proposals: Utility Regulations, Environment, Transportation, Land Use, Housing, Government Structure and Government Finance. The meeting will ., be Thursday, June 8. Metro Sawer CouncilMan Henderson to attend a Metro Council meeting relating to Metro Sewe~ 5-year budget and Metro sewer benefits. Sllfety Award Mayor Crepeau presented a 1971 Meritorious Achievement Award to Arden Hili,s from the Minnesota Safety Council, Inc., given In recognition of outstanding accident prevention performance In traffic safety education and enforcement. 3. AdmInistrative Office Employee Mayor Crepeau presented a request from the Clerk Administrator to hire a temporary office employee for a 12-week period, needed because of extra summar season work and 8 scheduled employee vacations. The Council agreed to the request, asking that employee be hired at minimum wage, If possible. CLERK ADMINISTRATOR LORRAINE STROMQUIST I.
