ARDEN HILLS SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL – FEBRUARY 18, 2025 3
7. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Rousseau commented on her contact with a resident that reached out to an
individual from Tree Trust who stated they were willing to provide 50 trees for Arden Hills
residents to purchase at a reduced cost. She noted donations and grant funds would be used to
support this. She explained that the City would need to provide a location.
Councilmember Holden asked what caliper the trees are and explained the City used to offer
something similar through Ramsey County wherein residents could purchase certain types of trees
that were of a certain caliper.
Councilmember Weber commended the resident for putting this information together. He noted
that there may be a single species offered, probably a pine, but it was not decided yet. The type of
tree offered would affect the caliper of the tree.
A short discussion ensued regarding the need to know more such as timing of an event, the type
of tree and thus space needed to plant such, and whether or not the trees are bare-root or bucketed.
Council consensus was for Staff to learn more about such an event.
Councilmember Holden said she wanted to inform everyone that this year the bonding cap at the
Capitol was $790 million and that $750 million has been taken by Governor Walz for strictly
maintenance and rehab of any public building which leaves $40 million for local entities so that’s
87 counties and every municipality.
ADJOURN
MOTION: Councilmember Holden moved and Councilmember Rousseau seconded a
motion to adjourn. The motion carried (4-0).
Mayor Pro Tem Monson adjourned the Special City Council Meeting at 8:09 a.m.
__________________________ __________________________
Julie Hanson David Grant
City Clerk Mayor
