Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />CONSENT ITEM – 8E <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: March 10, 2025 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> <br />FROM: Jessica Jagoe, City Administrator <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Authorization to Recruit for a Part-Time Communications Position <br /> Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> $130,491 Grade 13 or Grade 11 Various Funds <br /> <br />Council Should Consider <br /> <br />Motions to approve, table, or deny the following: <br /> <br />• Recruit for a part-time Communications Coordinator or part-time Senior Communications <br />Coordinator position <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The City currently has a vacant Communications position. This position originally began as a part- <br />time position in 2017 and had three different individuals fill the role until 2023 at which time the <br />Council approved transitioning the position to a full-time position and authorized Staff to recruit <br />for a Communications Coordinator or Senior Communications Coordinator position <br />simultaneously. This was done in hopes of broadening the candidate pool, and candidates were <br />directed to apply for one position only. The most qualified, single candidate from either the <br />Communications Coordinator or Senior Communications Coordinator was brought forward to the <br />Council for approval. While only seeking to fill one position, the process of posting for both <br />positions provided more flexibility in the hiring process. <br /> <br />The Personnel Committee reviewed the history of this position and has recommended the same <br />with posting of both positions, but in a part-time capacity. Additionally, the job description has <br />been modified to include providing coordination with Department Directors on researching and <br />coordinating potential grant funding opportunities. Below is the anticipated process. <br /> <br />Anticipated process: <br />-Council approves authorization to begin the recruitment process <br />-Staff posts for the position <br />-Staff reviews applications and selects interview candidates <br />-Staff will conduct necessary interviews of selected candidates and select a finalist <br />-Staff will bring forward a finalist for official Council approval <br />
