1 <br /> <br /> <br /> CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Position Title: Senior Communications Coordinator <br />Department: Administration <br />Accountable to: City Administrator <br />Positions Supervised: None <br />Status: Part-time 22 – 27 hours per week <br /> February 2025 <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVES <br />The Senior Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating, managing and leading City-wide <br />communication efforts. This position will be charged with long-term strategy, high quality and accurate <br />communication, and marketing projects, as well as, writing and coordinating day-to-day communications activities <br />on behalf of the City, other governmental organizations, media outlets, community groups and citizens. The <br />position will apply professional principles and judgment to lead planning, leadership, and communications for the <br />City of Arden Hills. The Senior Communications Coordinator supports all City departments by directing the City’s <br />communication and marketing efforts to facilitate two-way, symmetrical communication in a manner that reflects <br />the City’s high professional standards. <br />QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS <br />To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The <br />requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable <br />accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION <br />Coordinates the City’s print, digital, cable, and web services to meet the goals, objectives, and timelines of the City <br />Council and departments. <br /> <br />Develops communications standards and plans for the strategic goals of the City and works effectively with each <br />depart to ensure they understand and implement the City’s goals surrounding communication. Develops and directs <br />communication strategies for community engagement activities to improve overall performance, enhance the City’s <br />image, and increase participation and awareness. <br /> <br />Creates and writes original content and maintain consistent/uniform communications for the City’s news outlets, <br />including the City’s newsletters, press releases, and official mailings, which includes information gathering and <br />interviewing internal staff and external organizations to develop newsletter articles, press releases, website and <br />social media updates, etc. <br /> <br />Ensures the City is compliant with Federal, State, and Local laws relating to the City’s communication to include <br />website accessibility for individuals with disabilities (Section 508). <br /> <br />Writes, copies, coordinates, and update the City’s website as needed to ensure up-to-date information is being <br />distributed as required. Serves as main system administrator for the website (Civic Plus). <br /> <br />Facilitates relationships with the media, and proactively identifies and capitalizes on communication opportunities. <br />Responds to media inquiries at the direction of the City Administrator or responsible Department Head. <br /> <br />Stays up to date with City activities to include reviewing past and future meetings of the City Council and the City’s <br />other commissions and committees, daily communication with other departments regarding newsworthy items, and <br />monitoring outside news outlets and social media mediums for trending issues related to the City.
