Crepeau, Jr., Councilmen William Feyerelsen, <br />James Wingert, Charles Crichton, Robert Woodburn. <br />Absent - None. <br />Also Present - Attorney James Lynde'n, Treasurer Richard Q'Kelly, <br />Parks Director John Buckley, Clerk Administrator Charlotte <br />McNiesh, Deputy Clerk Dorothy Zehm. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Crichton moved, seconded by Wingert, that Counci I approve the Minutes <br />of the Regular Councl I Meeting of February 10, 1975, as amended by <br />Attorney Lynden, which amendment was amended by Crichton. Motion <br />carried unanimOUSly. <br /> <br />BUSINESS FROM THE FLOOR <br />None. <br /> <br />REPORT OF PARKS DIRECTOR JOHN BUCKLEY <br /> <br />Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting of February 11th <br />A. Park Land Acquisitions <br /> <br />Buckley reported that the Parks Committee members are very elated <br />about the possible acquisition of park lands. In review of the <br />5-year park acquisition pians, it was noted that the C. G. Rein <br />park dedications wi II adequately take care of the parkland needs <br />in the Johanna West area (New Brighton Road-Stowe Avenue); the <br />possibility of a park, 5 to 6 acres in size, In the area north d <br />County RoadE, would help solve the park needs for the Johanna East <br />area; the Cummings property will satisfy the parkland need in the <br />northeast area (Karth Lake). ' <br />Buckley reporTed that the Parks and RecreaTion CommiTtee recommends <br />Councl I support of the IY75 North Suuuroan Oay Activity Center <br />activities, as requested in letter dated 9/24/74. <br /> <br />Crichton moved, seconded by Wingert, that Councl I authorize the <br />payment of $362.40 to the North Suburban Day Activity Center. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />S ka tin 9 R Ink s <br />Buckley reported that the skating season is coming to a close for this <br />year. In observing the attendance at the rinks, he said Freeway, Perry, <br />Va'entl~and Johanna Junior High were particularly popular (2 rinks at <br />Johanna Jr. for part of the season, untl I snow accumulation became too <br />great for our crews to maintain both rinkS). <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Buckley reviewed costs of rink supervision, and recommended, because <br />of the warm temperature and poor ice, that rinks be closed for the <br />season, as of February 25, 1975 (ValenTine rink to accommodate a figure <br />skating class on Saturday morning). <br /> <br />Crichton moved, seconded by Wingert, that Counci I approve the closing <br />of the rinks on February 25, 1975. Motion carried unanimOUSly. <br /> <br />Wingert <br />I. <br />2. <br />3. <br /> <br />cited three complaints he received regarding <br />Snow not cleared from edge of hockey rink. <br />Boards in poor condition. <br />Odors in warming house. <br /> <br />Freeway ri nks: <br /> <br />i <br />In answer to the above complaints, Buckley stated that the Massey Fur- <br />guson and broom have done a fine job of clearing the rinks, but does <br />not remove snow within 8"_12" of the boards - this snow must be removed <br />by a small blower, or by' hand shovel ling - complete snow removal has <br />been done by hockey players and rink attendants In the past. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
