Street Light at G1e.!l!!l..!' and Highway 51 <br />McCall reported that the Public Safety Committee recommends <br />Installation of the IJ!lht as requested, If the residents <br />agree to pay for It; review of accidents In area Indicate <br />It Is not a traffic safety problem. <br /> <br />in discussion, McCall 5uggested that "yellow flashers", <br />warning motorists on Highway 51 that they are approaching <br />a residential area, could be instal led. Hanson said he <br />feels the proposed light would make It easier to locate <br />the intersection at night; several other Intersections <br />In the City also warrant a 'Ight; suggested that reflector- <br />Ized street signs may resolve the probiem of locating the <br />street at night. <br /> <br />Crichton moved, seconded by Hanson, that Council not author- <br />Ize the street-light, but authorize McCall to Investigate <br />alternatives to Identify the intersection at night. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />B. Unleaded Gas - Vliiage Tank <br />McCall reported that the Public Safety Committee recommends <br />that the City change to lead-free gas for all City vehicles. <br />McCall said he discussed the matter with Johansen who feels <br />confident he would be able to use unleaded gas In all of <br />his vehicles; only need for reguUar gas would be for lawn <br />mowers (small angines); would cost an estimated 2e more/gal. <br />for Public Works Department; wouid save about Se/gal. for <br />Police cars. <br /> <br />Council concurred that Village tank should be switched to <br />lead-free gas. <br /> <br />~equest from City of Grand MaraRs to Purchase Radar <br />McCall repo-r1-ed That one ot"deri-aliar unit is no ionger in use; con- <br />fident that It can be sold to Cfty of Grand Marais for $200.00 (origi- <br />nal purchase price was $995.00 - ll968 model). <br /> <br />After discussion, Crichton moved that Counci B authorize the sale <br />the 1968 Stephenson Spaedalyzer Mark VH radar unit for $200.00. <br />was seconded by Wingert and carried unanlm6us!y. <br /> <br />of <br />Motion <br /> <br />Purchase of Shotguns <br />hcCal1 referred Council to his IRemo re proposed purchase of two new <br />shotguns; explained that, although the shotguns are not often used, <br />they are subject to all weather conditions, and rough treatment; con- <br />cerned that they be In safe condition If needed. <br /> <br />After discussion, Crichton moved that CouncIl authorlie the purchase <br />of two shotguns at a cost of $!12.22/gun ltotal of $224.44, less $40.00 <br />trade-In).
