LeaRue of Minnesota Cities Questionnaire - State Financial Crisis <br /> Council was referred to LMC Action Alert ( 10-27-81) re Ststus Re- <br /> port - The State Financial Crisis and Its Direct Impact on Your <br /> City, attached Questionnaire and to McNiesh's memo of 11-6-81. <br /> In discussion, Council generally concurred that the answers not <br /> include specifics; concurred tbat cuts may have to be made by <br /> eliminaUng certain programs, possibly decreasinl bours worked <br /> in most departments and/or lay-off of employees. <br /> Questionnaire to be completed accordinlly by McNiesh. <br /> Request to Purchase Four-Drawer LeRal File <br /> McNiesh requested authorization to purchase a 4-drawer legal file <br /> at an approximate cost of $191. 00. <br /> McAllister moved, seconded by Hol1enhorst, that Council approve <br /> tbe approximate $191.00 expenditure. Motion carried unanimously <br /> (4-0). <br /> Claims and Payroll <br /> Council was referred to Ust of four additional checks for payment, <br /> in addition to the Claims and Payroll. <br /> After discussion, Johnson moved approval of the Claims and Pay- <br /> roll, including the four checks. as preaented. Motion was se conded <br /> by McAllister and carried unanimously (4-0). <br /> Council Liaison Reports <br /> MnDot Proposed Cross-over Plans - SnellinR/Hamline/Hwy. 51 <br /> Intersection <br /> Council concurred that interested residents be apprised of the <br /> November 23rd Council meeting at which time. Mr. Mike Robinson, <br /> MnDot Project Manager, will present the proposed preliminary <br /> cross~over plans for consideration of layout approval. <br /> McNiesb to notify residents who have expressed interest in the cross-ov.sr <br /> over modification, and to request the newspapers to publicize the <br /> lIat te r. <br /> Motel/Hotel Tax Proposal <br /> . In discussion, it was felt that any local tax (e.g. hotel/motel) <br /> should be illposed and collected at the discretion of the comllunity <br /> in which it is locsted; auburban hotela/llote1s have little relation- <br /> sbip to the inner city, conventiona and arts and Science facilitiea; <br /> suburban hotels/llotel. promote their own busineas; it is inappro- <br /> priate to use a hotel/llotel tax to support challbers of cOllllerce <br /> which are private entities supported by busineasea. <br /> McAllister moved, aeconded by Hollenhorat, that Council adopt <br /> Reaolution No. 81-81 OPPOSING PROPOSED RAMSEY COUNTY HOTEL/MOTEL <br /> TAX.
