Motion carried ~nanimous1y. <br /> <br />Business from the Floo~ <br />N""OO"e-- <br /> <br />REPORT OF PARKS DIRECTOR JOHN BUCKLEY <br /> <br />Concept Development Plans for Hazelnut and Cummings Parks <br />Buckley explained that the Parks Cornmitt~e enlisted the services of <br />University of Minnesota students to aid in the preparation of the <br />concept development plans for the Hazelnut and Cummings Parks. <br /> <br />Hazelnut Park <br />Buckley described "Hazelnut Park" as being approximately 12 acres in <br />area, bounded by New Brighton Road on the east, the highline and City <br />pedestrian pathway on tlH! HeBt, reilidential lots on Jerrold Avenue <br />and Trinity Luther'''' Church property on the south and. the residential <br />lots on Stowe Avep~e on the north. <br /> <br />Buckley seid the northern portion of the park is to ~emain as it is; <br />open area to the south is prDposed to be graded for one softball diamond <br />aad oae multi-purpose field (lowest area). Skating facilities are pro- <br />posed - an 85' x 200' hockey rink Eod 8 150' diameter free-skating <br />rink; propose to move the existing warming house at Johanna Kidd1e School <br />to this site; propose to enter inte on agreement with Trinity Lutheran <br />Churcb for use of their parking lot. It vasuoted that acceS$ to the <br />park 18 pr:l.mar:!.ly from the church pa.k:l.ng lot,Pricr Avenue and the <br />pedestrian pathway. Buckley indicated the location of playground equip- <br />ment and besketball court also proposed in this park. <br /> <br />~~2~t!,~~ <br />Cummings Park ~.B described a~ being apprOXimately 16 acres in size, <br />with proposed development in the southwest area adjacent to Control <br />Data prop~rty to the Bouth and residential lots to the vest. (proposes !m Agreement ,lith C.D.C. for use of the parking <br />area). . <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Buckley described tbe proposed location of two ballfields (southerly <br />regulRliu~ Bize field 275' deep, with 100' base linea; northwesterly <br />~iBld to be an informal field 220' deep, with 80' baae lines); park <br />1S elso to bave a playground and picnic area near the SOuthwest pond, <br />tennis and VOlleyball, and ba3ketbal1 courte. <br /> <br />Buckley.notad that neighborhood meetings were held about a year ago, <br />and the Par~~s Committee recommends zha development concept for these <br />two parks Bfi shown. <br /> <br />In diecussion~ Buckley noted thats if spproved9 grading in Hazelnut <br />Pa~k is proposed in about August of this YQar~ and seeding this fall. <br /> <br />_d <br />
