EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
<br />High school diploma or GED and moderate experience, or equivalent combination of education and
<br />experience.
<br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
<br />Some knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work;
<br />some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class; ability to understand and follow oral
<br />and written instructions; ability to use common hand tools; ability to operate machinery and equipment; ability
<br />to perform manual labor for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish
<br />and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and associates. Must have a basic knowledge of
<br />mobile applications and the ability to navigate on a smart phone. Ability to provide in-house fabrication on
<br />various equipment and tools. Ability to comprehend and execute written and oral instructions. Ability to be
<br />cross trained in the divisions: Park Maintenance, Street Maintenance, and Utility Maintenance. Ability to
<br />perform maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the following divisions: Park Maintenance, Street
<br />Maintenance, and Utility Maintenance. Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement.
<br />Maintenance and Operation of Vehicle Equipment
<br />• Operate and maintains various trucks, light and heavy equipment including but not limited to;
<br />City pickup truck, loader, roller, asphalt paver, plow truck, tractor, street sweeper, Aeriel lift truck,
<br />crane truck, sewer jetter, bobcat and riding lawn mower.
<br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS
<br />This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of
<br />force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking
<br />or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or
<br />crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions
<br />and occasionally requires sitting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth
<br />perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing
<br />or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others
<br />accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to
<br />receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work
<br />requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or
<br />small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms -length, operating
<br />machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work
<br />regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to
<br />outdoor weather conditions and exposure to extreme heat (non -weather), frequently requires exposure to wet,
<br />humid conditions (non -weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration and
<br />occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to
<br />extreme cold (non -weather) and exposure to blood -borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized
<br />personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy
<br />traffic).
<br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
<br />Valid driver's license.
<br />Possess or obtain a Class A driver's license within six months.
<br />Possess or obtain an MPCA Class SC Wastewater license and MDH Class D Water Operator license within
<br />two years.
