Motion carried unanimously. (5-0) <br /> <br />Councilrnember Malone recalled discussion of utilizing two-way water meters; <br />questioned if the Public Works SUperintendent has any =st figures available for <br />purchase of such meters. <br /> <br />Winkel stated he does not have any quotes available at this time. He advised he <br />will obtain a cost estimate an:i report to Council. <br /> <br />ODOR PROBLEM; <br />HAMLINE AVENUE <br /> <br />Councilrnember Malone requested an update from the Public <br />Works SUperintendent regarding the odor problem at the <br />residence on Hamline Avenue. <br /> <br />Winkel advised staff recently cleaned the sewer line an:i did not find anything <br />unusual. He e>q:llained the sewer line was previously videotaped an:i a smoke test <br />performed. He further advised that Bethel College was contacted to determine if <br />anything unusual was deposited in the sewer lift stations. winkel noted that two <br />engineering firms have worked on identifying the problem. <br /> <br />Council questioned if this is the residence where the stack was extended. <br /> <br />Winkel =nfirmed the extension of the stack an:i noted the residence is undergoing <br />remodeling at this time an:i it appears the stack will be higher than the initial <br />extension. He advised the resident has also discussed installation of new <br />plumbing in conjunction with the remodeling. <br /> <br />Councilrnember Malone recalled a complaint from the resident last year which <br />=incided with the official opening of Bethel College. <br /> <br />Winkel stated the hatneowner claims the problem is ongoing, however, the City has <br />not been contacted during each occurrence. <br /> <br />Councilrnember Growe e>q:llained she received a call regarding this matter an:i the <br />resident advised the family be=rnes physically ill during the time the odor is <br />present. <br /> <br />No action taken. <br /> <br />SAFEI'Y CONCERNS; <br />T.H. 51 & SNELLING <br />AVENUE <br /> <br />Council1nember Growe e>q:lressed concern relative to the <br />recent fatality which occurred at the intersection of <br />Highway 51 an:i Snelling Avenue. <br /> <br />Growe stated this intersection =ntinues to present safety hazards an:i suggested <br />Council =nsider forwarding a petition to the County requesting review of the <br />intersection to determine what type of measures may be taken to improve safety <br />=nditions. <br /> <br />Growe IlIOVed' se=nded by Hicks, to direct staff to <br />forward a request to MN/Dot an:i Ramsey County Highway Department requesting <br />review of the intersection of Highway 51 an:i Snelling Avenue, to determine <br />methods for improving safety =nditions. Motion carried unaniIlIOusly. (5-0) <br />
