Homes site could be fenced in its entirety, but they have <br />always opened their grounds to the neighbors and he wants this to <br />continue. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />George Bass, Shorewood Drive, said his problem ie with density, <br />the number of units and aeethetics; prairie graes "does it"; said <br />he ie also concerned about ecology; feels rabbits, pheaeants, <br />partridge, birds, shrubs etc. will go; said he lik. the plan ba- <br />sically; feels residential area is in jeopardy; city hae three <br />large inetitutions; feels that the Pree. Homes/neighbor meetings <br />have accompliehed nothing; church ehould be sensitive to people; <br />wanUi the lower site building and wall eliminated. <br /> <br />Jerry Fenetad said he is also a resident and is employed by Pres. <br />Homes; knows the philosophy of the home; ststed hie fsmily sleo <br />utilizes the Pres. Homea property; noted that it is, however, <br />private property. Fenstad said he sees how the linke will work; <br />noted that they will be opened to the neighbors, as well as the <br />reeidents of the home; Pres. Homes does not want to shut the <br />neighbors off; sheltered walkways are needed for elderly (not to <br />exclude neighbors). Fenstad said it ie not our desire to fence <br />the property; facility is not an "inetitution" but a"home" for <br />the residents; noted that its purpoee is to provide a "home" and <br />services for our elderly; noted that it is open to all who live <br />in the area. <br /> <br />Hagstrom noted that they have hatched partridges in the Pres. <br />Homes courtyards; are also intereeted in ecology; woods and garden <br />areas will remain. <br /> <br />Baker said he has no question about the miseion of Presbyterian <br />Homes, which we applaod. <br /> <br />Wayne Johnson, 3153 Johanna Blvd., said he is a resident of the <br />area and wae an employee of Pres. Homes; noted that he works with <br />other nursing homee; noted that the link syetem concept is gain- <br />ing ac cep tance and is unique in the S tate and in the Coun try, feels <br />the links are needed in inclement weather; without them, the <br />people do not get out to attend the programs or avail themselves <br />of the other facilities of the home. <br /> <br />Mr. Reynolds said that community plans are shaped by expectations; <br />if comments are made, people should be able to rely on them;" feels <br />this ie the basis of our problems. <br /> <br />Fritze said the current Comprehensive Plan ia the controlling plan; <br />when you change one part, you have to make changes elsewhere; noted <br />that plans do change. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Donald Lamb asked the restrictions on residente who will live in <br />the cluster units. Hagstrom said they must be a minimum of 65 <br />years of age; can remain as long as they can take care of them- <br />selvee in the units; noted that nursing care is not provided in <br />the units; explained that loneliness, nutrition, physical being <br />of spouee etc. are reasons people desire this type of home. <br /> <br />McAllister asked about day care programs provided for the elderly. <br /> <br />Hagstrom eaid that adult day care has about 40 adults registered; <br />15-20 people/day are transported by Pres. Homes buaee; also have <br />a home health program and homemakers and home helpers, short term <br />care, in addition to respite care (30 days). Hagstrom said neigh- <br />borhood groups come in for varioue activities; also have our own <br />welfare program, which is not government eubsidized. <br /> <br />Hagstrom said they are concerned about the walkways; people have <br />to get to the main building; residents of Sutton Place are isolated <br />in the winter months and in rainy and/or windy weather; noted that <br />connecting links are provided in the downtown areas by sky ways to <br />get people from building to building. <br /> <br />-5- <br />
