.
,

, .'

..

for the particular development at hand, it is possible that they
might be interested in helping the Park Committee - some way of
reimbursing the park for the loss of its land? That may be a
. possibility.

MRS. ZEHM: It's 30 days after receipt of the Planning Com-
mission report.

MAYOR WOODBURN: Although classically, if no objection is
forthcoming from the developer, we have taken longer than that.

MRS. ZEHM: Right.

COUNCILMAN JOHNSON: I'd like to ask Don a question, or
Marcel, relative to (inaudible). Marcel, you indicated that
you obviously want to get rid of some of the storm sewer that
runs on Royal Lane.

MR. MARCEL EIBENSTEINER: Right.

COUNCILMAN JOHNSON: That, topography-wise, is about a 20
foot drop?

MR. EIBENSTEINER: Twenty .feet from the east side to the
intersection.

COUNCILMAN JOHNSON: I don't know what the percentage
would be, but are you of the thinking that you could delete the
underground work, let that water run at the curbs down to
Norma Avenue?

MR. EIBENSTEINER: Right. Down to the intersection.

COUNCILMAN JOHNSON: Have you established or determined
what the velocity of the water would be as it leaves the park
area and what it would be doing as it reaches Norma Avenue?

.

MR. EIBENSTEINER: No. All I've done - I've talked t9
an engineer - I didn't tell him who was doing the work here
I just showed him what the problem is and aske& if I could
eliminate the pipe in the street and have a catch basin at the
bottom of the intersection. He said he could figure it out
and about a half hour later he said yes, there would be no
problem. In fact, he suggested we could even go a hundred feet
further. I can understand your concern. Your concern is that
the water would be coming down the hill at such a high velocity
- so we'd have a catch basin half way between the hill and
the intersection and another one at the bottom of the inter-
section. I guess I can buy that.

COUNCILMAN JOHNSON: I guess I'd like to have Don at
least comment about that. If I'm way off in left field, tell
me, but when I look at a 20 foot drop in that distance, it
seems to me that it's going to be a little difficult to pick
that water up in a surface-type catch basin.

32
