I
I ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - DECEMBER 9. 1996 13
lit format which is easier and cost effective to update by City Staff. Mr. Ringwald reviewed the
information to be contained and how this tool will be used for business retention.
I Mr. Ringwald noted the revised quotation is a bid from Print Craft to produce 500 brochures for
$2,836. He commented on the hard work of the Economic Development Committee and Chair
I Dan McCallum and recommended approval of the brochure and expenditure of $2,836 for
publication of 500 copies.
I Mayor Probst expressed concern about having only one letter from a local business and
commented on the need to have multiple correspondence. Mr. Ringwald stated it should not be
difficult to get letters from other businesses to provide balance.
I Mayor Probst stated for the record that he is delighted to have this product at this point. He
I requested the Council consider coordination of graphics produced by the City so the brochure
contains a common element.
I Mr. Ringwald noted the additional funds in the budget which can be used to include other items,
if Council so desires.
Ie Councilmember Aplikowski noted the Economic Development Committee chose colors of the
current stationery to tie it into the City. She noted they originally had four or five short excerpts
from different businesses.
I Councilmember Keirn stated the brochure is very good and the Economic Development
Committee spent a lot of time on it but she is concerned that the community profile is too much
I of a metropolitan protile. She suggested separate brochure sections for the Arden Hills profile
and the metropolitan profile. Mr. Ringwald noted the other area of community specific data and
agreed more thought can be given to how it is laid out.
I Councilmember Keirn recommended a firm be hired that has experience with other community
I brochures to fine tune the Arden Hills' brochure.
Councilmember Malone agreed with the large amount of work which has taken place and
I commented on the need to assure this brochure is the best brochure possible. He indicated
support for review by a professional to make sure the brochure reads appropriately and the
presentation is the best it can possibly be. He suggested the business letters be differentiated
I from the City's material by printing it on their own letterhead.
Mr. Fritsinger requested Council suggestions on firms to approach.
I Mayor Probst stated he is very pleased that the brochure is at this point and happy to allow the
t' Economic Development Committee to review it again prior to final print, if they desire. He
endorsed taking action to authorize final professional review.
I
