Call to Order at 7:03 pm. <br /> 2. Roll Call <br /> a. Members Present: Aaron Frederickson, Mark Kelliher, Chuck Mertensotto, Ray <br /> McGraw, Charles Stoddard and Clayton Zimmerman <br /> b. Also Present: Councilrnember Lois Rem, Terry Post and Dwayne Stafford <br /> c. Guests: Steve Perra from Ace Solid Waste, Rich Hazledine and Gary Bogum <br /> from Waste Management and George Walter from Walter's <br /> 3. Old Business <br /> a. Garbage collection <br /> 1) Chairman Kelliher asked for feedback from the guests representing the refuse <br /> hauler industry. Kelliher said that that committee/City Council was concerned <br /> about aesthetics, hazards caused by trash cans and recycling within the city of <br /> Arden Hills <br /> 2) The guests gave the committee feedback• <br /> a) George Walter sad that his company picks up roughly 60%of the stops on <br /> Wednesday and 40%of the stops on Thursdays. He said that he currently <br /> has about 700-1000 residential stops within the city. George said that he <br /> would like to haul garbage two days a week in Arden Hills instead of one <br /> day. <br /> b) Waste Management said that they have about 400-500 stops on Arden <br /> Hills. Most of their stops are on Tuesday and there are a few on Thursday. <br /> They also talked about several difference methods of refuse collection in <br /> various communities in the Twin Cities. <br /> c) Ace does about 90% of their stops on,Tuesday and about 10%on Friday. <br /> Steve also mentioned that there is a little boy in the city of New Brighton <br /> that likes to wave at the garbageman(refuting a certain committee <br /> member's assertion that people are not emotionally attached to their <br /> garbageman). <br /> 4) Methods of collection. <br /> (i) "One hauler city" Generally the customer pays more. This is because <br /> of city administrative fees. <br /> (ii) "Limited collection days.,keaseak degree, this may cut down on <br /> garbage truck traffic. efi l crease the community aesthetics. <br /> (iii)"Consortium plan" May hurt the customer. Lack of redress on <br /> collection problems. They are locked into that hauler with no ability <br /> to switch. <br /> O <br />
