•
November 2, 1999
Dwayne Stafford
City of Arden Hills
Public Works Director
4364 West Round Lake Road
Arden Hills, MN 55112-5794
Dear Mr. Stafford,
Enclosed you will find a petition endorsed by Arden Hills residents in the Chatham
neighborhood. The petition was drafted with the input of the residents in the neighborhood and
those with children directly affected by an unsafe parking situation. The petition asks the City
Council to approve placing signs that prohibit the parking of cars, during school hours, along
the portion of Chatham Avenue adjacent to Valentine Hills School.
The primary concern is for the safety of the children. However, for additional reasons set
forth in the petition, the parking situation presents a hazard for motorists as well. These
• concerns can be easily remedied by erecting "no parking during school hours" signs along the
aforementioned area of Chatham Avenue.
On any given school day, there are between five to ten cars parked in this area. The parking
situation is only a concern while school is in session, indicating that the parked cars belong to
persons affiliated with the school. Prohibiting parking during school hours would make the
Avenue safer and still allow visitors of residents to park there, if need be, when school is not
in session. Other measures taken in the past include ticketing, and requests made directly to
the car owners. Unfortunately, these acts have not had any impact.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Therese A. Galatowitsch
1780 Chatham Ave.
Arden Hills, MN 55112
651-628-0174 (h)
612-348-8579 (w)
•
