Shorevlew Position <br />Paper re North End Fire Station, Chronology Regarding North End <br />Fire Station and a tabulation of market values and fire contract <br />costs of the three vi I lages were distributed. Mayor Wedell <br />reported that Shorevlew had appl ied for a grant In conjunction <br />wIth the proposed fire station - no action to date on grant. <br /> <br />A questIon was raised re contract provisions for Villages Jointly <br />purchasing land and equipment for the Fire Department. Gary <br />Dickson read Section 4 of the Joint Powers Agreement for the <br />Fire Protection Board which enables Joint purchase provided each <br />Councl I authorized the purchase or lease. <br /> <br />A map delineating the areas to be served by three stations was <br />revIewed. Chief Koch explaIned that service areas were based on <br />response time rather than mileage; feels three stations are <br />needed to serve the 30,000 population spread over 36 square miles; <br />noted that Rosevl I Ie has three stations for Its 36,000 population. <br />Mayor Wedell noted that the population of Shorevlew is expanding <br />very rapidly. Koch explained that for all structure fIres two <br />statIons respond to be sure that enough vol unteer firemen will be <br />at the scene. With the volunteer system you cannot be sure how <br />many are available at a given time. <br /> <br />Chief Koch stated that volunteer firemen sponsored carnivals etc. <br />In the early 1940's and built the first station on New Brighton <br />Road In 1944. In 1955 louis Hili donated the land for Station <br />2 on Hodgson Road. The owner of the property for the proposed <br />statIon on County Road I Is asking $100,000 for the 2+ acre site - <br />$20,000 down payment, balance spread over 4 years.
