.
b. Recommendation
The south tank pressure sensor should be moved away from the booster pumps to
. an existing pit at base of south tower where effects of booster pumps would be
minimized. This is the normal area of placement on water towers. Much of this
- work could be done by staff.
c. Problem 2 Costs
Staff has received quotes from three (3) electrical contractors on moving the south
tank pressure sensor. The electric portion of this project would be by AID
Electric of Fridley, Minnesota and it would be cost plus not to exceed $1,536.00.
3. Problem 3.
The electric motors which run the north tower booster pumps were made in the 1960's
era. These motors are not very efficient.
a. Consequences
The NSP rates are adjusted as to the efficiency of the motors, Therefore, we pay a
higher user rate. Reviewing our electric bills over a one (l) year period we found
we have been penalized over $600.00 this past year.
b. Recommendation
- A power factor corrector should be installed on our electric motors. This would
- make our motors more efficient and lower rates even more. Expected payback on
. this would be two (2) to three (3) years.
-
c. Problem 3 Costs
Staff also received quotes from three (3) electrical contractors on the installation
- of two (2) 9K V AR Capacitors, Aid Electric has the best bid on this work also at a
cost plus basis not to exceed $1,711.00.
-
En~ineerinl:":
Staff has not yet reviewed these recommendations with the City Engineer.
-
Recommendation:
Staff recommends tllat the Council direct staff to work with the City Engineer on these proposed
- modifications and upon completion of this review prepare formal action by the City Council at a
future meeting.
.-
-
-
-
-
- .
-
-
-
- ..
