I
~. CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
I
DATE: January 16, 1996
I TO: Mayor and City Council
I FROM: Keviu Ringwald, Community Development Director ~
SUBJECT: Gateway Business District
I Request
I The Staff wishes to discuss with the City Council the vision and the district standards of the
Gateway Business District (GBD), and the direction the City Council wishes to take on the
implementation ofthose visions and standards in the GBD.
I Discussion
The Staff has attached to this memorandum the purpose (Exhibit A) and the district standards
I (Exhibit B) for the GBD for the City Council's information. Also, the Staff is providing relevant
portions of the PLANNING STUDY FOR NE 1-6941l-35W (Exhibit C).
.. The Staff has received numerous inquiries as to the availability ofland within the GBD,
subsequent to the City terminating negotiations with Everest Development. These inquiries have
I ranged from hot to cold in terms of their interest in relocating to the GBD. These inquiries
almost without exception share a common trait and that is one or more of the provisions of the
current zoning district requirements prohibit them from locating in the GBD, Therefore, the
I Staff wishes to discuss the GBD with the City Council to receive direction on what mayor may
not be flexible in those district standards, so that Staff may focus on developments which are
consistent with the City Council's intention for the GBD,
I Recommendation
None. The Staff is requesting City Council direction on this item.
I
I
I
I
"
I
