Fax: 612.64,.9'46 RE: PROPOSED LIFT STATION NO.6 UPGRADE
Dear Mr. Stafford: I
As requested, we have reviewed the proposals submitted for the referenced project, and I
have made a few lelephone calls to clarify some questions. Proposals were received from
Tri-State Pump and Equipment, Waldor Pump, and Quality Flow Systems.
The Tri-State submittal proposed using Myers, submersible, explosion proof, 5 Hp pumps I
and a basic undefined control panel. The proposal did not include excavation costs, gate
CV~L ENGIN::\;;'<G valves, electrical work, restoration, or debris removal. Bypass pump rental was listed as I
EW:;ONMENTAL an extra $1,200 to the base proposed price of $16,928. The lack of the excavation and
MuNICIPAL electrical costs make it difficult to compare this proposal with the others on a cost basis.
P:....i..~lN!NG The total proposed cost of $18,128 does not include potentially significant costs for ..
SCUD 'tIAS"~ subcontractors to install the new cover slab and wire the electrical controls,
S7RIX~lJAL
5J,'/~"(:~.G The Waldor Pump submittal proposed using Flygt, submersible, non-explosion proof, 3 I
fRAF::C Hp pumps and a basic USEMCO control panel. The proposal quoted $12,771. 48 for
T.~A~jS?OR;,~ i:QN equipment, $9,720 for labor, and listed potential options of stainless steel chain for $250
and explosion proof pumps for $600. The proposal did not specifically list check valves 1
E _:::~KI CALl ,',lEe,.. Ai\liC t..:. but Mr. Goehring of Waldor Pump indicated that they would be provided. Mr. Goehring
:\.G;"c:~".G anticipated installation of the gate valves inside the wet well structure, so excavation for
''""','J:..:: I
;;Cw:~ DjSFL3YiO~. outside installation would be an extra cost. The proposal did not include site restoration.
S("'C:A With the stainless steel chain and the explosion proof pump, the total price of the Waldor
5'!$TE\\ CON~ROLS proposal would be $23,341.48. I
The Quality Flow submittal proposed using KSB, submersible, explosion proof, 3.4 Hp
pumps and a basic Consolidated control panel. The proposal quoted $14,164.50 for I
equipment, $9,380.00 for labor, and listed a potential savings of $2,000 if the restoration
work were completed by the City. The proposal included a master electrician and permits
to complete the electrical portions of the project. Stainless steel lifting chains were not I
included, but Mr. Bill Meline of Quality Flow indicated that they could be added for about
$250. Mr. Meline also indicated that they had anticipated placing the gate valves inside I
OFFICES IN: the structure so excavation for outside installation would be an extra cost. To compare the
quoted price from Quality Flow with the Waldor price, the credit for restoration by the
MINNEAPOLIS City should be deducted and the price for the stainless steel chain should be added. The ..
PRIOR lAKE comparable price becomes $21,794.50.
