In addition, the Mounds View Youth
Hockey Association purchases approximately 50 additional hours for a summer hockey school; 90
. hours for warm-ups during September; and an additional 75 hours from Anoka County for Columbia
Arena for a Thanksgiving tournament. These hours are not included in the figures set forth above.
I Our teams do not presently have adequate ice time for practices. Approximately one-half of the ice
time used by our teams is "shared" ice: i.e. two teams on the ice at one time. Ideally, it would be
better to have only one team on the ice at a time but we are unable to do this because of our serious
I lack of ice time.
The most common complaint received by our hockey associations concerns the lack of ice time. We
.. expect that we will be able to use the 2080 hours of ice time that will be required of us by MSAC.
We also under~tand that there other organizations, such as youth soccer, figure skating. open skating,
I etc. who will want to share in the use of this facility and we look forward to discussing this subject
with you.
I The Mounds View and lrondale Youth Hockey Associations have been in the forefront of the girls
hockey movement. Our high schools were some of the first in the state to start varsity a.~d junior
varsity teams. The lrondale and Mounds View Youth Hockey Associations presently hove girls
I
I 4 We purchased 1,124 hours of ice from Ramsey County during this year at an average
I cost of $80Ihour. This figure does not include ice which was purchased from other sour:es such
as Anoka County.
I l The significant increase in ice purchases in 1993-94 is attributable to the fact L'.,at we
were able to purchase approximately 600 hours of additional ice time from Columbia A:ena.
Our hockey associations were able to utilize all of this ice time without any problems. However,
I in following years, Anoka County has been unwilling to sell us such a large block of ice
f' 6 This includes 100 hours of ice time that Irondale purchased from East Bethel.
7 This includes 45 hours of ice time that Irondale purchased from East Bethel.
I
