I%?
-. 2. REASONS GIVEN BY LJVFD FOR BUILDING THE PARKING LOT
In speaking with the deputy chief and a member of the LJVFD, I asked why they needed the
20-space parking lot. 1 was told that:
. They prefer to park on the lower level. However. when parking on the grass. the
land became muddv in the sprin~ and fall
- It should be noted that blacktopped parking already existing at the site
includes:
.. A parking lot for 15 cars on the upper parking area to the
north of the fire house (see attachment #2-2)
.. A second parking lot for 12 cars on the upper level to the south of the
fire house (see attachment #2-3)
.. A roughly 12-15 foot wide paved area to the north of the fire house
which, perhaps, could accommodate 4-5 additional cars parked
parallel to the road (see attachment #2-4)
- LJVFD provides services to several communities at four fire stations, of
-
which the Arden Hills fire station is one. In total, the organization has about
- 70 participants. Because Arden Hills is one of the less populated
communities, it would seem that the available 25+ spaces which already
existed would have be adequate for normal day-to-day use
- In addition, Trinity Lutheran Church is located half a block to the north and
has a parking lot with over 100 spaces. LJVFD has used their parking lot in
the past, according to conversation with the Pastor's Office on September 4,
1996. With advance notice, the north side ofthe lot is available at no charge. It
is suggested that LJVFD contact the pastor to make arrangements to use some
of that space when overflow parking is needed. (see attachments 2-5, 2-6)
. Training sessions are held from time to time which involve 20-30 firedghters from
all four LJVFD locations (held on Tuesday evenings and Saturdays several times
during the vear
- Please see comments concerning existing and overflow parking options
.
