I
I AET #96-2601 - Page 7
.
I should extend slightly beyond the outer edge of the curb, or the paved edge (if no curb is placed)
I to maintain frost uniformity.
I New fill placed should be compacted per Mn/DOT Specification 2105.3F1 (Specified Density
I Method). This specification requires soils placed within the upper 3' sub grade zone be compacted
to a minimum of 100% of the Standard Proctor density (ASTM:D698). Soils within this upper
I zone should also maintain a water content ranging from 65% to 102% of the "optimum water
content" based on the Standard Proctor. A reduced minimum compaction level of 95% of the
I Standard Proctor density can be used below the upper 3' zone.
I We recommend fill placed as a consistent thickness sand subbase meet the requirements of a
"Select Granular Borrow" per Mn/DOT Specification 3149.2B.
'- The sand subbase should be provided with a means of subsurface drainage or prevent build-up of
, water within the sand. This can be accomplished by placing short segments of properly engineered
, drainage lines which are connected to catch basins in low elevation areas (referred to as "fmger
drains"). Where street areas are relatively level, and if fmger drains are not frequent, you should
, consider placing a longer parallel drainage line through the level area to better remove infiltrating
water.
, Sub grade Soil Factor
, Based on the encountered soil types, we recommend using a Soil Factor of 100% for the streets
in the Colleen Avenue area and in the Hamline Avenue Service Road area. We recommend the
, Soil Factor be increased to 120% for the Snelling Avenue Service Road. If a sand subbase is
placed, it is our opinion the Soil Factor will be improved to 75 % for the Colleen/Hamline areas
, and to 100 % for the Snelling area. Please note that if your approach will include eliminating a
\...
~
