June 19. 1989 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />COMMITTEES (Cont'd) <br /> <br />Hansen noted that other communities she has surveyed do <br />not utilize citizen committees to the same extent as <br />Arden Hills; discussed use of lIaction committees". <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Council concurred to prepare information for their respective committees for the <br />July Council Worksession. <br /> <br />SPRAYING WEEDS; <br />LAKE JOHANNA <br /> <br />Councilmember Hansen advised Lake Johanna will be sprayed <br />for weeds on 6/21/89. <br /> <br />OAK AVENUE CONSTR. <br /> <br />Councilmember Malone questioned when the construction <br />work would begin on Oak Avenue. <br /> <br />Clerk Administrator Berger advised the attorney is working on obtaining the <br />necessary easements prior to beginning construction; stated he would keep Council <br />informed on the matter. <br /> <br />CITY ENGINEER <br />SELECTION <br /> <br />Mayor Sather suggested Council try to adhere to the <br />schedule for interviewing firms for the consulting <br />engineer position; he referred Council to the questions <br />Administrator. <br /> <br />prepared by the Clerk <br /> <br />The following firms and personnel were interviewed by Council: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1. Maier Stewart & Associates, Inc.: John Stewart, Terry Maurer and Gary <br />Brown. <br />2. Toltz, King, Duvall, Anderson & Associates: John Davidson. <br />3. Short-Elliott-Hendrickson: Don Lund and Barry Peters. <br />4. Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik & Associates, Inc.: Marvin Sorvala, Dan <br />Edgerton, David Loskota and Bob Schunik. <br /> <br />A spokesperson from each firm gave information relative to the size of the firm, <br />personnel and qualifications, services provided and fee schedules. <br /> <br />Councilmembers posed questions to each of the engineering firms representatives. <br /> <br />Council thanked each firm for their time and presentation. <br /> <br />During Council discussion of the four firms interviewed, it became apparent that <br />Maier Stewart & Associates, Inc. and Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik & Associates, <br />Inc. were the two top choices. After discussion of the pros and cons of each <br />firm it was determined that Councilmembers felt comfortable and confident with the <br />MSA firm representing the city and that it was a difficult choice as the two <br />firms were well represented. <br /> <br />Mahowald moved, seconded by Malone, that Council direct <br />Administrator Berger to prepare a resolution for adoption at the 6/26/89 Council meeting <br />appointing the firm of Maier Stewart & Associates, Inc. as City Engineer and that <br />the firm of Short-Elliot-Hendrickson complete any projects in the city currently <br />under their direction. Motion carried unanimously. (4-0) <br /> <br />Council directed the Clerk Administrator to forward letters of thanks to the <br />remaining firms interviewed and to make special note on the Bonestroo letter that <br />the Council decision was very close. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />AMM COMMITTEES; <br />REQ. VOLUNTEERS <br /> <br />Clerk Administrator Berger advised Council the AMM was <br />requesting City Officials to serve on various committees; <br />noted the form submitted needs to be returned by 6-21-89. <br />
