At <br /> those locations, subexcavations wil! be needed to remove soft clays. Because these soils have <br /> relatively high moisture contents, it will be necessary to aerate and dry these soils before <br /> I placement and compaction. <br /> Wet and waterbearing soils were observed in some borings and water will likely accumulate in <br /> I the excavation bottoms, particularly where waterbearing sand layers are unearthed during site <br /> grading and footing excavation. Dewatering may be necessary during excavation and prior to <br /> backfilling. Because the primary soils at this site are clay, we anticipate it will be possible to <br /> I remove the water in footing trench excavations by pumping from temporary sumps in the <br /> excavation bottom.
